My intention today was to list several quotes by famous people and comment on them, however after reading so many great quotes I 've decided to select a few that can be used to motivate both parents and their children.
!) A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step.
2) Doing your best is more important than being the best.
3) The right to do something does not mean that doing it is right.
4)Between each dawn and setting sun, set aside some time for fun.
5)We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
6) The best thing you can spend on your children is time.
7) There is nothing so fatal to character as half finished tasks.---David Lloyd George
8) If you can dream it , you can do it.---Walt Disney
9) Follow your bliss.---Joseph Campbell
10) 20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.---Mark Twain
Wow. I started reading these famous quotes just looking for a few to talk about and I ended up reading all 500 of them. These 10 I listed are only a few of many great great quotes available on this website.
I think every parent should read the 500 quotes even if it's just for themselves. At the same time many of these quotes have valuable and often forgotten lessons that we can use to teach our kids. I'm not just talking about teaching English or Math or any other subject, but the basics that our kids need in order to live in this world. Things like manners, courtesy towards others, sharing, selflessness and respecting elders are in my mind more valuable subjects that will be with them throughout their entire lives.
I know in my life for example I have learned Math when I was in school, but as an adult I use a calculator. In school I learned what chemicals to mix to make glue, now if I need glue I buy it.
My point is not to say that what we learn in school is not important, but rather to stress that what we learn from our parents and society is equally important.
What will happen to a child that never learns to share for example, chances are they will grow up without friends. How about a child that is allowed to get away with everything they do wrong with no consequences, chances are that as an adult they will feel they can do anything and no law will apply to them.
I was raised to follow what my parents called "the golden rule" and it says "Treat others as you would have others treat you." this means just that treat people the way you want them to treat you.
Anyways, I was just hoping to remind some of you of how you were brought up as well in the hopes that we as a society can continue to teach our kids the important lessons not taught in schools.
Thanks again for reading, till next Friday.

David Lloyd George
Walt Disney
Joseph Campbell
